Acupressure (Acupuncture without needles)

Acupressure releases tension, increases the circulation of blood to muscles and soft tissues, and heightens the body's vital life energy to aid healing.

Acupressure points and Acupuncture points are the same. Acupuncture uses needles to stimulate these points, while Acupressure uses gentle but firm finger pressure. Acupressure points relieve pain, tightness, muscle fatigue, muscle weakness, and maintains good health through self-care. By relaxing the body and relieving stress, acupressure strengthens your resistance to disease and promotes wellness.


Acupressure Points for Stress Relief

Tension tends to concentrate around acupressure points (also referred to as acupoints or acu-points). When a muscle is in spasm or chronically tense, the muscle fibres contract due to the secretion of lactic acid caused by fatigue, trauma, stress, chemical imbalances, or poor circulation.

As an Acupressure point is held by your practitioner, the tension in your muscle eases, allowing the muscle to lengthen and relax, blood to flow to the muscle, and toxins to be flushed out and eliminated by the lymphatic system. Increased circulation also brings more oxygen and other nutrients to affected areas. This increases the body's resistance to illness and promotes a longer, healthier, more vital life. When the blood and bioelectrical energy in the body circulate properly, there is a greater sense of harmony, health, and overall wellbeing.


Finger Pressure on Acupressure Points

Your practitioner uses gradual, steady finger pressure on different Acupressure points - approximately 3 minutes is ideal. Each acupoint will feel different when pressed, some points feel tense, while others are sore or ache while held. How much pressure to apply to an acupressure point depends on your body and how it responds, which your practitioner will gauge. As the point is held any soreness decreases as the blood flow returns and the muscle releases.

This is a wonderful treatment for people with chronically tight muscles and/or high stress levels.
