Acupuncture | Acupressure
Acupuncture is are one of the healing modalities of Chinese Medicine and is the most well-known.
Acupressure is exactly the same but uses finger pressure instead of needles. The benefit of Acupressure is your practitioner gets direct feedback as to which Acupuncture point is imbalanced.
The body's acupuncture points are just as easily and effectively stimulated by applying finger pressure to the Acupuncture points instead of inserting a needle.
Acupuncture and Acupressure are based on 14 meridians and more than 400 acupuncture points in the body. These points correspond to different organs, physiological processes, hormones, muscles, nerves and so on.
So if you prefer, the needles can be swapped for finger pressure to stimulate the energy flow or 'qi' (sometimes written as 'chi') along the meridians to bring about balance and harmony among your body systems.
This is just a different way to do the same thing.
Meridians are channels of energy movement in the body. If the flow of energy or 'qi' (sometimes written as 'chi') becomes blocked, stagnates or is depleted then the body as an overall ecosystem is out of balance.
When this happens then illness and disease result.
In Acupuncture and Acupressure, the flow of qi or energy is treated at specific points in the body which fall on different meridians these very specific areas are called Acupuncture Points.
The Acupuncture Points chosen vary from patient to patient depending upon your complaint, your progress with treatment, and change in symptoms.
The Acupuncture Point stimulated using finger pressure changes the flow of qi or energy along the meridians, which is why sometimes you may notice sensations in the body far from where the pressure is applied. Because all of You is connected!
